The Directorate General of Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction contributes to the mandate of the Ministry

The Directorate General of Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction contributes to the mandate of the Ministry through the following responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the development of Ministry’s plans;
  2. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of planned activities in all departments and programs of the Ministry;
  3. Ensure timely reporting of activities carried out;
  4. Ensure Ministry’s comprehensive data collection, analysis and management;
  5. Ensure development and updating of national policies, laws, strategies and plans in line with Ministry’s mandate;
  6. Ensure implementation and monitoring of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Policy;
  7. Establish mechanisms for collaboration and partnership with different stakeholders in disaster risk reduction and management;
  8. Operationalize disaster management committees;
  9. Enhance community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives;
  10. Promote community outreach and engagement programs;

11. Enhance public awareness raising and capacity building;

12. Enhance disaster resilience and copying mechanisms;

13. Participate in the National Planning to ensure consideration of disaster risk reduction into sector plans and budgeting processes;

14. Monitor and inspect the compliance to rules and regulations relating to disaster risk reduction across the sectors;

15. Disseminate, monitor and upscale the implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures;

16. Initiate and participate in development of projects proposals relating to Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction;

17. Ensure reporting of the Country’s achievements regarding disaster risk reduction and management in line with regional, continental and global agendas.
