Minister Murasira Inspects Progress of Housing Construction for Disaster-Affected Families in Rubavu District

The Minister in Charge of Emergency Management, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira, accompanied by Western Province Governor Jean Bosco Ntibitura and Rubavu District Mayor Prosper Mulindwa, conducted an inspection visit to the Ruranga and Kasonga resettlement sites in Rugerero Sector, Rubavu District, where 870 houses are under construction for households affected by the 2023 disasters.

Implemented under the Contingency Emergency Response Component (CERC) Project, the housing initiative aims to provide safe, resilient, and dignified shelter to families who were displaced by disasters. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of ongoing works and discuss measures to accelerate implementation.

While commending the progress achieved so far, the delegation emphasized the need to fast-track the remaining works to ensure that beneficiaries can be relocated as soon as possible.

“Providing safe and resilient housing for disaster-affected families remains a priority. We encourage all stakeholders to strengthen coordination and accelerate the remaining activities so that beneficiaries can access decent housing without delay while ensuring the required quality standards are maintained,” said Minister Murasira.

The project forms part of the Government of Rwanda’s broader efforts to support recovery, build resilience, and improve living conditions for communities affected by disasters.
