Friday, 20 December 2024 - Kirehe Distrisct, which is among the five districts hosting refugee camps, is witnessing transformative development through the Social Economic Inclusion of Refugees and Host Communities (SEIRHC) Project, also known as Jya Mbere.

The initiative, funded by the World Bank, aims to improve the lives of both refugees and host community members by enhancing access to essential services such as schools, roads, markets, and health centres among others.

The construction of BUKORA TVET aligns with Rwanda’s broader efforts under the National Strategy for Transformation which emphasizes job creation, inclusive education, and economic empowerment. By bridging the skills gap, the school aims to equip graduates with the competencies needed for meaningful employment, entrepreneurial ventures, and societal contributions.

Designed to accommodate 500 students, BUKORA TVET School is equipped with modern infrastructures and advanced learning tools. It offers training in six trades including; Building Construction, Manufacturing, Fashion Design, Plumbing, Hairdressing, Water and Irrigation Technology.

This is the second TVET school built in Kirehe District after MUSAZA TVET, which was completed in 2023 and can host 400 students, serving both Rwandans and refugees.

The Mayor of Kirehe District Mr. Bruno RANGIRA, commends the infrastructures constructed in Kirehe under Jya Mbere saying; the schools, among others infrastructures stand as a testament to the power of partnerships in advancing development of the district.

Beyond providing technical education, TVETs constructed are expected to drive local economic growth. Skilled graduates from the schools will contribute to the labor market and inspire innovative solutions for community challenges. 

From 2019, the ongoing project has constructed 250 Classrooms, 386 Latrines, 5 TVETs (Musaza TVET and Bukora in Kirehe, Gituza TVET in Gatsibo district, Mubuga TVET in Karongi and Giti TVET in Gicumbi district) 3 Water Supply System (WSS) (in Gatsibo, Karongi and Nyamagabe) 2 Markets (Mugera market in Gatsibo and Ryarubondo market in Nyamagabe) across districts: Gatsibo, Gisagara, Karongi, Nyamagabe, Kirehe and Gicumbi.
